All Motorcycle training companies are not created equal Regardless of how good the web site looks it is the results and methods that really count - But don't just take our word for it, please scroll down this page to read just some of the comments we have received as a result of our training sessions. Unlike some training companies Ultimate Rider Training is not just about getting you through the test !
We give you practical skills and build a mind set that makes fundemental changes about the way people approach riding on today's roads - We develop your core riding skills and give you the tools to develop your riding ability throughout your career That's what we mean by "We are with you every step of the way". Mark Sheppard Director Hi Mark I've just got home after having successfully passed my module 2 - first attempt - with zero faults !!! I wanted to express my thanks - to yourself for your initial words of encouragement when I enquired about learning (never having sat on a bike in my life) - and to Jay. When I turned up on that first Saturday morning, I was 'Mr Nervous' - which wasn't to last very long.... Jay was really great in calming my nerves down and the explanation he gave, together with the practical demonstrations (making it look SO easy !!), were superb. I passed my CBT and Jay let me borrow a study book and dvd for the theory test, which I managed to pass at first attempt. Having made the decision early on and after getting Jay's backing, I opted to go for the DAS. Jay's commentary whilst riding, constructive and meaningful feedback and his genuine encouragement, made learning so enjoyable. I passed the module 1 at first attempt, after a lot of self-doubt .... which Jay turned into self-belief, with practical advice that worked wonders. Today has been the icing on the cake and I am now looking forward to choosing a first bike..... and have already spoken with Jay about further training. He is, without doubt, a brilliant instructor and really made the whole experience fantastic. With thanks and best rgards, Gary
Hi Mark,Jay,
What can I say, luvin your work, you dudes made me feel very comfy even though i didn't do my cbt with you,(thats another story yeah) how many questions can you guys take without getting down? I asked loads, you must have thought you were surrouded,! I can only say that hand on heart i know I've been taught by the best. Many thanks.. P.s... how about getting a kettle......
All the best 'dual lane paul'
Hi Mark and Jay, I would like to say a big thank you for putting up with me and getting me through the DAS. As you know I did the CBT with another company and did not think I would ever be able to get to test standard.
You guys had much more confidence in my abilities than I did and I was gobsmacked when from previously never ridden or sat on a bike to 8 weeks later I am now the proud owner of a newTriumph Street Triple R. I have listened to family and friends trying to disuade me from learning to ride because it is dangerous and I did think they may have a point at the beginning but not now. You guys did what you promised and Jay is a superb instructor (constructive but very thorough especially with them eyes in the back of his head - there was no hiding from him).
Guys, you have changed my life and I love Motorcycling, Best regards Chris (Have a go) Hannis
Hi Mark and Jay, Its 'Signal Steve' here, I passed my CBT and DAS in April and have just remembered I said I would drop you an e-mail (oops, sorry!). I would like to thank both of you for a great week, Jay is a fantastic instructor and I cannot praise him enough with his patience and calm manor really put me at ease and I did not feel under pressure at all, not to mention a good laugh and very professional. Mark gave great advise and a fantastic team talk before the test which really helped. I am looking forward to coming out on a ride out soon and catch up with you both (as soon as I get the bike, hopefully in the next couple of weeks). I am now convincing my Dad to do the CBT and DAS and have explained what a great time he will have. Thanks again for a wonderful week and for helping me realise a life long ambition. 'Signal Steve' Dean Hi Mark and Jay, Just wanted to drop you a long overdue mail to say thanks for a great week and getting me through my test first time. Jay was an excellent teacher and has set a lot of good habits. Passengers already comment on my 'safe riding'! I can hear Jay wincing as I type, but I went and got a 250cc scooter for commuting. It's been awesome and makes London a lot more fun. My goal is to get hold of a Street Triple after seeing one next door to you, but I think thousands of others have had the same idea... Anyway, hope all is well with you, I'll definitely be back when I get the bigger bike. I've been recommending you to everyone who asks (and some who don't), so I'll be waiting for the commission cheque any day. Cheers, James Jay and Mark, I would like to thank you for the wonderful training this week that led to me passing my test. Since I was riding my 125 everyday during to and from the training course I noticed my riding improve and get safer as the week progressed. It made a huge difference. I wasn't really aware of just how dangerous I was on the road with all my bad habits. I started the course with the intention of just getting the license paper so I could travel to Spain & Morocco, but by the end of the course I realised that you guys had opened my eyes to all the hazards around me on my bike. I now ride more safely and cleanly. You are both a kind and patient with your teaching and this makes all the difference. I may not have liked the mock test near the end of the week, but it got my head straight for the test and I passed with flying colours (er... 4 minors). Thanks again. The DAS course was wonderful and you guys are great! Check out www.markyandnic.blogspot.com if you want to see the progress down to Morocco that you guys made possible! Kind regards, Kiwi Mark
Dear Jay & Mark Hi gents, quick note to thank you both for a great week (2nd to 6th June 08). Secondly, I hope you can add this feedback to your growing list of testimonials on your website to encourage others who maybe considering Ultimate Rider Training. Having been riding for 4 years socially on my Vespa PX under a CBT certificate it was time for me to take the plunge and sign up for my DAS training. Having been recommended by my friend James Ewing (Ironman?) to contact Mark at Ultimate Rider Training I was naturally curious, excited and anxious on how the whole BIKER experience would be. Instantly upon arriving I my mind was put at rest, with a warm and relaxed welcome I was greeted by Jay and Mark then introduced to my fellow students who were also made to feel at ease. Before being split into 2 groups (depending on your test centre – Guildford or Chertsey) we all received clear honest direction on what to expect during the class room and practical training over the week eventually leading up to our tests. Throughout the week we all received 2 to 1 training from Jay and Mark who methodically took us step by step through the art of motorcycling from 125cc to 500cc bikes. Not only was the training and advice accurate and valuable, for me the whole “experience and environment” created by both Jay and Mark was extremely professional and thorough to ensure we all progressed at our pace but in a timely manner towards our test dates. So here I am … a big grin on my face, L plates in the bin and after passing first time with only 3 minor faults after 4 x days training following my CBT training having never ridden a 500cc motorcycle before! I would happily recommend Ultimate Rider Training, there are cheaper companies out there but in this world you ‘pay for what you get’ and these boys can not be surpassed. Best regards & thank you again, Huw (Scooter Boy’o). Mark, What can I say, well first off I would like to thank you for a seriously fun packed DAS week, what a laugh, awesome experience mate would do it again in a flash.
Thank you so much for getting me through the CBT/DAS today. I'm chuffed to bits that I passed first time and with only one minor fault. The training was quite intensive but overall very enjoyable and lots of fun. I chose Ultimate Rider Training simply because I got a good feeling about you - and I was right. You truly are the best in the business. I would recommend you to anyone who wants to learn to ride PROPERLY, not just to get through the test. I salute you!
Tony summers P.S See you on the rideouts. Keep me informed..
Jay Firstly I would like to say I had a great time doing both my CBT & DAS Training with you it was Fun, Relaxed yet serious as well. Secondly I would like to thank you for all the help and guidance you gave me in how to ride a bike safely and to help deal with obstacles. I may have to encounter on my biking journey, Also your patience and understanding when I did things wrong or couldn't quite get the hang of things (those blasted U-TURNS) helped give me the confidence to know I could ride a bike and I could pass my test. Thirdly I would like to say a BIG thank you for getting me through my second test I was gutted when I failed the 1st time and though that maybe I couldn't ride a bike but after talking to both you and Mark I knew it was just nerves and my lack of confidence, so the second time I took this on board and passed With 0 faults and the first lady to-do this for Ultimate training and its all thanks to you. Well I off to look for a bike and would love to come back to you guys for some advanced road training and am also looking to do the CSS next year. YAY Thank you once again see you all soon Take care BUTTON XXXX Dear Mark & Jay, Hey guys. Just been for my first long solo ride on my new bike, and it was awesome! So I thought I'd drop you an email to say thank you for getting my through my test - first time!!! The direct access course was great fun and a good laugh. Your professionalism and experience definitely made me feel confident on the bike 100% of the time - even during those nasty U-turns! I had a great time, so thanks again. Will definitely be sending my 'soon to be biker' friends your way for their course. Looking forward to hearing about your next ride-out - will be up for that for sure! May get in touch soon as well about some further training. See how things go. Cheers, Andrew
Hi Guys. Lads I don't know where to begin thanking you. I came into the beginning of my DAS thinking I knew it all. Turns out I actually knew very little. As you know I previously had a CBT from another motorcycle training school, (who shall remain nameless) and seems now that they were more interested in getting another CBT on the score board than actually teaching me to ride. I was amazed at what I learned on my CBT with you. There was so much that I just did not know. Like my P.O.W.E.R check. Still think it sounds better P.O.W.E.T... I was even more excited to learn that I would be riding the legendary Bonneville... Nearly wet my pants. Thanks again lads for not only teaching me to pass my test, (Like some schools do) but for teaching me to be a safe and competent rider on the road. My mum thanks you for that one. You are both amazing teachers. And I owe you a lot. You get such a feeling of freedom on a bike. A feeling that only bike riders get to experience to the full. Now it is a feeling I get to share with my Dad. Something I have been wanting to do forever. Guys I thank you, and my Dad thanks you. Will keep you updated on my new bike adventures. Bug Man Wayne.
Dr. Sheppard, Just wanted to drop you and the honourable Mr. J. a line to offer my sincerest gratitude for what has been one of the most significant changes in my curious life. I thought after 2 years of riding 125’s I knew how to ride, how wrong I was! In the space of 4 short days I learned so much about handling, control, skill and most of all - patience. Thanks to you guys I have now found the mythical “zone” and with your guidance I’ve unlocked the door to true riding joy! (or at least the beginning of). 20 minutes after passing I was on a test ride and have now bought my speed triple! The hills and winding roads are calling me, I must away. Much respect and good health to you and yours, hope to see you both on a ride out soon! Peter ‘twinkle toes’ Theobalds
Mark (and Jay of course) What can I say? the weather wasn't the best that August could be, but the week itself has to rate as one of the best of the year. Monday's CBT with Jay was relaxed and informative. All of the Basics were covered and plenty more besides. Don't worry about the constant E-stops, figure of eights and u-turns; they'll definitely come in handy for the rest of the week. Tuesday, and Mark was the Boss for the rest of the week. The first time I rode out of the car park and onto a 'real' road, I was just a little apprehensive, but Marks dulcet tones through the earpiece calm any nerves quickly. If I can give you any advice, it's listen to Mark and Jay. They really know what they're doing. They will not put you in any danger, so you have to have confidence in them and yourself - Seriously, you really can do it. Needless to say I passed, and with 4 minors I was happy (although I broke the 3 0's in a row) Ultimate Rider Training. - I can't give them a big enough plug - They may not be the cheapest - But they must be the Best. Spend the extra few quid and learn in a 2-1 environment, have a blast and ride safely. BTW - I'm now the proud owner of a Thundercat and Loving it - Sweet. Andy Beaven
Mark, Just a quick note to say a big thanks for all your guidance and belief in me right from the off, your a life saver (thought you would enjoy that one). A pass first time with only two faults is a credit to you as an instructor and should be a big incentive for anyone out there looking for guidance on which school to select for any form of motorcycle training. Further more it is only after I passed my Direct Access test today that I fully appreciate exactly how much more knowledge you have given me as a rider, and how vulnerable I would be out on the road if I had just got enough info to get me through the exam which is ultimately all I was looking for. So once again many thanks. Secondly thanks for getting me through my test (with zero faults....), but I think more importantly, thanks for teaching me how to a motorcycle well and to deal with whatever obstacles I may face on the road. Time spent on A roads, dual carriageways, one way systems etc has increased my confidence ten fold and in turn my riding experience is greatly improved. Yours is a refreshing approach to motorcycle training, the practical no-nonsense methods mixed with great personality will stay with for life and have no doubt made me a much better rider. Not only have I gained a new category but a friend as well... I am off to play with my shiny new bike, will definitely in touch to book up some advanced road training and you try and keep me away from the CSS (Superbike School).

Dear Ultimate Rider Training Having had no experience before I came to you I didn’t think it was possible in just 1 week, but with Mark's excellent teaching skills and patience and maybe a little bit of magic I did. Mark is the man to see if you want to learn Fantastic!! Mark, Just a quick note to say a big thanks for all your guidance and belief in me right from the off, your a life saver ( thought you would enjoy that one ).A pass first time with only two faults is a credit to you as an instructor and should be a big incentive for anyone out there looking for guidance on which school to select for any form of motorcycle training.F urther more it is only after I passed my Direct Access test today that I fully appreciate exactly how much more knowledge you have given me as a rider, and how vulnerable I would be out on the road if I had just got enough info to get me through the exam which is ultimately all I was looking for. Hi Justin, Just to let you know I passed my test this morning! I got 1 minor fault - just after coming back over Walton Bridge, I didn't notice the box for bicycles when stopping at the traffic lights until a little too late, so I went over the line a bit. Apart from that, no other faults, and I actually quite enjoyed the ride, especially once the U-turn and emergency stop were out of the way! Anyway, thanks very much for all the great training you gave me - like you said, it's for more than just passing the test, and I feel much more confident on the road now in general. All the best for your busy summer teaching people to ride! Cheers Scott Dear Mark, Jay, and the team I just wanted to thank you so much for your expert guidance and tuition throughout my CBT and DAS with Ultimate Rider Training. I’m delighted to have passed my test first time with only three minor penalties, and your instruction has been absolutely first class. I’ve really enjoyed learning to pass my test, but also experiencing the ‘real’ world of biking. Your patience, understanding, and personal track records gave me the confidence to not only pass the test, but thoroughly enjoy the process and my time with you. The coffee shops in Weybridge may miss my business but at least I’m keeping clutch manufacturers in business !! I’m looking forward to the start of my biking career, and am definitely going to come along to the Ultimate Rider Training events in the near future. Once again, it’s been terrific, and thanks for everything. All the very best to you and the team. Gordon ‘it’s all in the eyes’ Milner
Dear Mark and Jay, Thank you both again for your commitment, support and your high standard of tuition which made my CBT and Big Bike test simple, even if I did put my foot down on the U-turn the first time! The course has given me a lot of confidence in my riding yet I’ll definitely take up your offer of advice as time goes on and my riding progresses. From what I hear of other “schools” which friends & colleagues have used, you’re leagues ahead of the competition; reputation is well deserved and I recommend the school to other prospective riders. Cheers,Ben
Dear Mark A little note to say how nice it is to just get up in the morning and get on the bike and go, what a relief. It’s a good job that you and jay are very easy going to put up with me, no on a serious note, Thanks for the instruction mate you made life very easy, no shouting at me when i got it wrong, and plenty of praise if i got it right, the rides we went on were fantastic. Just keep me informed of any ride outs your planning. Cheers.
Dave
Mark and Jay Thank-you mark for believing in me and jay for saying we will ride for an hour and if you don't want to do your test you don't have to. (Tears and everything). And then I went and passed. And to all you ladies out there, if you like the idea of riding a bike then here are the people you should go with!, I passed my C.B.T. with somebody else (but it should have been with ultimate rider). After having an accident with the other company and being told I would never ride a bike my confidence level was at all time low, a close family friend told me about this lovely man who run ultimate rider who had time and patience, so i started with mark on sat 24th of Feb, (yes i was there longest pupil). The other thing is that I'm only 5ft 1" with size 3 feet, (yes I'm short).First we went on a 125 just to get use to it, I was crap!, I went round corners at 14mph, I had mark in my ears saying I would be alright and I was, he believed I could do it and I slowly believed in myself. We then went onto Ruby yep I named the bigger bikes. And then it was jay's turn to do Uturns with, and the e easiest way to do them is, looking down the road and say shiny bike, sexy jay. And it worked. And I finally passed my test on Monday 16Th July 2007. So a big big big thank-you to you.
Hi Mark, I would like to say thank you very much for a great das I enjoyed the whole experience, say a great big thank you to Jay for me he is a top man. Keep me posted about any future rideouts you arrange as i would be well up for coming. To anyone who is thinking about taking a direct access ultimate rider is an excellent course to choose as they have a friendly fun attitude to learning and are highly qualified to help you with any difficulties you may have along the way, also another benefit of using ultimate ryder is they don't just get you through your test they also stay in contact and arrange social events such as rideouts which is ideal for meeting new people with the same interest - HIGHLY recommended. – Ryan
